We Are the Voice

In 2002, Niamh Clune wrote the song, We Are the Voice, for the Earth Summit in Johannesburg. Niamh and her daughter, Aleisha Shimizu, performed the song at the opening concert. In March 2019, Niamh, along with team-mates, Aleisha and Ali Trott brought together six local schools from Surrey to re-record the song and launch it as an anthem to Mother Earth.

The We Are the Voice environmental children's choir was born!

Lyrics

We Are the Voice

Who will speak for the trees?

Who will speak for the rivers overflowing boundaries?

Who will speak for the ice?

Who will speak for the ever-rising waters of the tides?

Who will speak for the air?

Who will speak for the air and all the poisons that we breathe?

Who will speak for the seas?

Who will speak for the oceans that are drowning in our greed?

CHORUS

We are the voice,

The voice of hope,

The voice of reason

Guardians of the earth,

It’s in our hands,

The children’s future.

Who will speak for the waste?

Who will speak for the wasting of our opportunity?

Who will speak for the fires?

Who will speak for the fires in which we burn our legacy?

Who will speak for the lives?

Who will speak for the species that are soon to fade away?

Who will speak for the child?

Who will speak for the future of the child that has no say?

CHORUS

We are the voice,

The voice of hope,

The voice of reason

Guardians of the earth,

It’s in our hands,

The children’s future.
